Are you about to head off on a family holiday? Make sure you protect your home and family’s possessions with a few simple tasks.

- Secure the home. This might sound silly, but by making sure you lock all the doors and windows to the house and any sheds will prevent any easy access. Don’t leave any spare keys lying around the yard and lock away any valuable personal items. The safer you are the better.
- Tell a friend. Let a trusted neighbour or friend know that you will be away. This way they can keep an eye out on the house for you, collect any mail, take care of any pets and keep the place tidy. If you are travelling for an extended period of time, advising the local police is also recommended. Providing them with your contact details while you are away also allows for anyone to contact you.
- Switch off and unplug any electronic appliances in your home. This will save you on your power bill and avoid damage to any of your equipment should a power surge occur.
These are just a few ways to make sure you come home to a full and safe house and leave you worry free while you relax on your holiday!
